We all get told that it’s easier and cheaper to buy a new car than to fix up our current one. And sometimes that’s true. But not always. If the problems with your motor are relatively minor, it’s usually a lot cheaper to fix up the small things by yourself and save money on an expensive new car.
If the engine is dying and the problems are starting to add up, seriously consider scrapping the car. But if the issues can be dealt with by putting in some time and effort, do it yourself! There are loads of great ways to make your tired, old car look new and awesome!
Change the Oil
In terms of regular maintenance of a car, oil changes are one of the most vital aspects. It’s as simple as it sounds. It refers to the process of removing the old oil from the car and replacing it with fresh oil. And, remember, when you change the oil, you should also change the oil filter at the same time. You need to do all this because, over time, the oil loses its ability to lubricate the engine so must be changed.

Replace Your Wheels
By replacing the wheels and tires of a car, you can instantly make it look newer and fresher. It’s up to you whether you replace the tires, the wheels or both. Replacing both is obviously more expensive but it can be worth it. Companies like Northwest Car Parts do good deals on alloy wheels, and you can get tires quite cheaply online too.
Rip Out the Interior
When you’re in the car, it’s the interior you appreciate. What’s the point in having a great looking car on the outside if you have to sit in an old, tired interior? For me, this is the single best way to make your car feel new. You don’t necessarily have to get new seats (although you could), just change the covering, it’ll make more of a difference that you’d imagine.
Check the Electrics
Cars that are more than 10 years old will probably start feeling their age in the electrics. First of all, check that everything is in working order. If it’s not, take it out and look for something new. Even if it is all working though, the chances are it will be long out of date by now. So, you could update the radio and audio system to something newer.
Get a New Paint Job
Paint jobs get tired and faded after a few years so make sure you give your old car a new one if you want to freshen it up. It will make the whole car look newer, and it will hide all those little scrapes and scratches that have been there for years.
Give it a Clean, Inside and Out
Make sure you clean your car regularly. Looking after your car can be the best way to keep it looking fresh and new. Don’t forget the inside either. The bits of rubbish and car park stickers can accumulate pretty quickly if you don’t tidy up regularly.
